As I put on the finishing touches for Educating Thalia this morning, I don’t want it to end… The story idea began when @devikafernando teased me with a photo of Chris, in glasses, in September 2016. I wasn’t in the mood to write it, but we made jokes anyway. Two days later I had 900 words about a sassy barmaid. And that was it. We let it go. The story came back in late January 2017, partially induced by a high fever during my winter flu. This time it was real and it was on- we knew what we wanted and where the story was going. And TBH, a lot of it was “how can I kill her now?” as we sent edits and chapters back and forth.
I was terrified to share the thing. Being totally knew to the Hiddles fandom, no one knew me, but I was welcomed with open arms! I quickly became a regular on the Naughty Stair, and got pulled into the tease of sending photos back and forth. (which for me is the best part of fandom!) I’ve made some amazing friendships and got to know wonderful new people. Thank you.
The story was an instant success, and I know it had nothing to do with our men. Thalia Bareo is amazing. She’s this real, kick ass woman. Her size does not define her, and she lets nothing stand in her way. No matter the outcome of the story, she comes out a winner in the end. Strong, confident, and ready to walk forward…
I am blessed and honored to have worked so long, side by side, with Devika Fernando.
What an amazing, incredible woman!
I think one reason I hesitated last fall was I felt like “just” a fan fic writer; ‘why would a published author want to write with me?’
But her constant encouragement, comments of ‘*dead*,’ and her praise when I wrote Tom for the first time made it so worthwhile! Working with Devika made my hobby of writing seem real. In a few short months, we’ve written a true novel, and I got to tell a story I couldn’t have told on my own… Our friendship has grown and I have learned so much from her. She’s not just a friend, or a writing partner, she’s a sister, and I love her with all my heart.
To all the readers who commented on the tale, sent us your thoughts, and even created your own little stories, THANK YOU. Bless the ones who waited patiently every Sunday and Wednesday for the story to post, and thank you from the amazing, LENGTHY, reviews.
Educating Thalia. What an amazing ride this has been! Thank you for following us on this journey, and know this experience will not be forgotten.
Love,
