“This is your daily, friendly reminder to use commas instead of periods during the dialogue of your story,” she said with a smile.

“Unless you are following the dialogue with an action and not a dialogue tag.” He took a deep breath and sat back down after making the clarifying statement.

“However,” she added, shifting in her seat, “it’s appropriate to use a comma if there’s action in the middle of a sentence.”

“True.” She glanced at the others. “You can also end with a period if you include an action between two separate statements.”

Things I didn’t know

“And–” she waved a pen as though to underline her statement–“if you’re interrupting a sentence with an action, you need to type two hyphens to make an en-dash.”

You guys have no idea how many students in my advanced fiction workshop didn’t know any of this when writing their stories.

Look what I have!

I am working away on edits for @devikafernando for her new Inn Love Series!  Her first story is set in B&B in England and features a long-legged, handsomely rugged gentleman, named Jonathan…  *cough, cough*  ANYWAY, it’s so good, and I’m so honored she asked me to edit for her!  But she couldn’t really say no, since the series came from an off-handed suggestion I made months ago!

Tantalizing Temptations will be available for sale November 29!

Thank you SO MUCH, for a whole list of things. *hugs* @cassmichaels

Now excuse me, I gotta go bite my nails while I wait for feedback.

Wow! This amazing!!! Congrats and can’t wait!! 🤗

Thank you, hun! Even though I’ve got more than 10 books out already it’s thrilling and terrifying every single time. 😀 @sf0206

Congratulations @devikafernando ..so excited to read this one…

Thanks so much, @fairlightswiftly

Stages of Editorial Letter

thewife101:

metteivieharrison:

First
stage of editorial letter: delay. I spend at least two days not reading an
editorial level because I’m scared.

Second stage of
editorial letter: weeping. Why did I ever write this? How did I let it go out
so flawed? How can I ever fix this?

Third stage of
editorial letter: denial. There’s nothing wrong with this. And if there is,
it’s just a few little typos!

Fourth stage of
editorial letter: list. Maybe I could change a few things. That one there would
work. And maybe that one.

Fifth stage of
editorial letter: This editor is brilliant! A genius! I would be nothing as an
author without her!

@nicloetje @avenger-nerd-mom @2glassesofchianti My current editors!! 💋

My goal tonight!
