I just graded what may be the most amazing student project ever… It was basically a gay Harry Potter fanfiction written in Spanish! Student project was to write the story of the life of a skeleton for Dia de los Muertos. And this student wrote about Draco Malfoy and his huge crush on Harry. But Harry did not know and when they fought the Battle at Hogwarts he killed Draco for supporting Voldemort. Days later when it was discovered among Draco’s things that he had loved Harry, Harry was so distraught he killed himself. And it was written in less than 15 sentences, according to project guidelines. And it may possibly be the most amazing student project I’ve ever seen. It literally made me happy to think this kid is writing fan fiction and doesn’t even know it! As we were working on it, days earlier, he was struggling, as English is not even his native language, and Spanish is not his second language. So he was dealing with lots of languages in his head, but he told me he felt Draco was the most misunderstood character and had always been his favorite. Reading his project, I feel I know this student a little better, and I’m so happy for it.
The last few weeks have just seemed to wipe me out. Nothing seems to go right, and on top of it all writing, which usually cheers me up, has been DRY. Emery was chatty today, so I rolled with it. I spent time actually going back through my tags to reference older bits and pieces- I mean COME ON, the series has run nearly 3 years now! And while I was checking my tags, and researching things, I kept finding messages from YOU the READERS.
Messages and notes I haven’t read in ages. OMG, you guys are amazing. Every little comment kept me going then, and I had forgotten that wonderful feeling… Reading all the old posts, jokes, teases, gifs truly cheered me up today.
